ViV

Variance Invariance (ViV) addresses art objects as things that move between individuals and that illuminate and are illuminated by those who produce and exchange them. A box of paintings are stacked and shipped for temporary house exhibitions, rendering them spatially and geographically untethered. From September 2013 through April 2014, ViV travelled to a series of individual participants who assembled the work according to their own preferences, documented it in their spaces, and shipped it back to me. To date, ViV participants were artists, writers, critics, curators, NASA technicians, teachers, bakers, psychologists, and art historians. Some participants chose to interact with the work privately, some in small groups, and still another was created a group exhibition of artists displaying their work with ViV.
