How to Create the painter style seen & Paint in Photoshop without additional software?
Photographers often purchase Corel Painter, using the program to create photos with a watercolor painted look. Kerri Kirshner of Bothell, WA, developed an easy watercolor process using only Photoshop. She used several different brushes and sizes to create a variety of textures. Leaving a few of the leaves and bark in an unpainted state maintained some of the original texture of the foliage and tree. Postcards featuring this image were made by a printing company that specializes in quality postcards for the photo industry.
Here are Kerri’s step-by-step instructions for creating a painted image:
- Open your original file.
- Complete all needed retouching on its own layer.
- Create a new layer and name it “painting.”
- Choose a brush and start painting on the copied layer of the image. Adjust the opacity and flow of the brush according how you want the final image to look. Other standard brushes can be loaded into Photoshop (impressionist, leaf, oil sketch, etc.).
- As you work, make notes about brushes, sizes, and opacities you’ve used.
- Use a separate layer for each different brush or technique you use, and name the layer with the brush or effect name.
- Add other elements, as desired, creating a layer for each new addition.
