Oil Paintings On Canvas For Sale Questions

Help fellow artists!!! How much do you price large original paintings for???
I submitted my art for my first local show and got in but now all 5 of my paintings will be available for sale! Some of them are rather sentimental so I don’t think I’d part with them unless it was for a really good amount of money. They are all oil on canvas and range from 24″x36″ to 48″ x 36″
Here are 2 of them so you can get an idea:

What’s a fair price to expect if someone actually inquires? I don’t want to seem like I’m overpricing but also don’t want to part with them for not enough, especially since supplies and the canvas and time alone are valuable!
Congratulations on your first local art show! How exciting!
One method of pricing paintings is similar to any production business.
Figure out what you want to make hourly and multiply that by the time it took to create and market the painting.
Add that to the cost of materials.
Add the cost of doing business (marketing, rent, utilities, etc). during those hours of work.
It would look like this:
$250 … 10 hrs. painting and marketing X $25/hour
35 … Cost of materials
60 … Business costs of $12000/year X 10 hrs/2000 hrs (year of working full time)
———-
$345 – wholesale price
$690 – retail price
I know it is sometimes difficult to sell some paintings. We tend to get attached to our work, especially when we are just starting to sell. Looking back, I was so attached to some early works because I had done very few good ones and somehow felt (in the back of my mind) that I might not do any that good again. But, that’s not true. If you keep painting, you will produce lots of good paintings and be glad those early ones are not still in your garage!
On the other hand, every artist had his or her favorite paintings that they never sell. I keep the ones that were a turning point in my style, or those that are too much “me”, too personal to sell. If you don’t want to sell a piece in an art show, just put “NFS” (not for sale) or a sold sign on it!
Good luck at the show!!!!
Buying Oil Painting Reproductions: An Inexpensive Way for Art Lovers
If you study fine art or you are a fine art lover, then oil paintings must surely be one of your likings. Sometime in your life, you might have come across an oil painting in a book, a museum, an exhibition or on the internet which you liked a lot. You might have even wanted to hang it on a wall of your house or your workplace or gift it to a dear one. But these exotic paintings are expensive and everyone can not afford them. Moreover, many of these are priceless of art, not meant for sale but are only preserved in museums.
The best way to posses such paintings is buying oil painting reproductions. Oil painting reproductions are reproductions of famous works of art, hand painted by talented artists. And you need not be super rich to possess one. Although these are not the original works but when they are painted with precision, then only an expert can tell the difference between the original and the reproduction. They are much better than prints because when hung on your wall, it will seem as if it is the original creation.
You can go to various art stores or painters in your locality and ask them to recreate the painting of your choice for you. A better and more convenient option would be to contact art companies and centers or dealers who provide oil painting reproductions as a business. Most of these companies have sites on the web, where you can select the painting that you like the best after browsing through the hundreds of available options and choices. You can place the order online and the painting will be shipped to you in due time.
Choosing the painting that seems best to you is not the only thing. There are a few other things too that you need to keep in you mind while buying oil painting reproductions. If you have a lot of experience in the field of painting, then it is going to be easy for you to not get cheated. But if you are a newcomer or do not know much about oil painting then you might be deceived easily.
Find a dealer who is trustworthy and experienced. You can also contact friends who have bought oil painting reproductions before and buy from those companies to make sure that you do not get deceived. Enquire about the artist who will be painting it and look into his past creations and oil painting reproductions on the internet to get an idea of his work. You can also enquire about the brushes, paints, colors, canvas etc… which will be used. Make sure that they are of good quality as it will affect the painting a lot. You can also choose the framing that you want. A beautiful framing will enhance the beauty of the painting reproductions many folds.
You will get oil painting reproductions starting from the price of $300. But everyone knows that compromising with the price means compromising with quality. So, do not go for the cheaper oil painting reproduction companies which create paintings in bulk like goods manufactured in factories and promise quick deliveries. Unless you are in a hurry to gift it to someone, give the company ample time to make the oil painting reproductions. Similarly, do not try to alter the original size of the painting just for the sake of getting it cheap. It is better to pay a few hundred dollars extra and get a beautiful work of art rather than save those hundred dollars and get a sub standard piece of art.
